Network Administration Internship By: Isaac Johnson II

Summary of Duties Performed Creation and maintenance of user accounts and contact lists. Trouble shooting/ helpdesk regarding problems with employees personal computers. Use of data transfer and system security diagnostic tools to monitor and address problems within the organization.

Types of software used in the completion of my daily tasks 2 types of operating systems (Microsoft XP and Windows Server 2000). Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 2003 and Firebox Firewall System Diagnostic Tool. Microsoft Active X Directory and Microsoft Exchange Mail.

Non-technical tasks Interaction with employees to gather information on their satisfaction with the organization’s network and insight as to what their network activities are (e.g. talking with employees on an individual basis to find if their internet connection speed is suitable to them; what things they may have downloaded that could possibly be the cause of some problems they’re having with their computer.

Things Learned From This Internship An overall better understanding of how information flows through and organization. Exposure to different security architectures and knowledge needed to be involved in an organization as a network administrator. How to deal with others in a corporate setting.

Conclusion The role of a network administrator is crucial to an organization’s efficient functioning. Network administrators are expected to above and beyond their job description if it is not very specific.
