Publishing on the Web 6th Grade Literacy – Session 7 of 8

Focusing Questions Why is publishing so important? How do you evaluate which publishing Web sites are most appropriate for your class?

Finding and Evaluating Online Publishing Sites There are many good publishing Web sites, but some are not appropriate. How can you tell if a particular site is appropriate? Online Publishing Sites Evaluating Online Publishing Sites

Resources Writers seek out appropriate venues to publish their work. They consider their audience as well as the genre of their work. When submitting writing to outside publishers, writers must make sure their work meets submission criteria.

Web Publishing Protocol Make sure to consult with your building administrator to see that all protocols have been followed before having students publish on the Web. All students must have a signed Parental Consent Form to publish writing on the Web. Parental Consent Form

Work Time

Choose one of the Web sites provided. Evaluate the site using the criteria provided in the Evaluating Online Publishing Sites for Students resource. Record your thoughts on the evaluation form and save to your hard drive.
