Our school is located in Adana, which is on the south coast of Turkey. Adana is a big and cosmopolitan city with the population over 2 million. The school is located in Sarıçam which is the centre district of Adana. Sarıçam is a disadvantaged area economically and socially. Some of our pupils live near the school and some of them come from different parts of the city. It is a medium-sized school with 19 classes, 510 students and 31 teachers. It has got an IT class with 16 computers and a meeting hall. Main objective of our school is to enable our students enter university. The foreign languages taught are English and German.

Smart Board Fiber Internet Tablet

Ministry of National Education launched a project called “Fatih”in It means “Increasing the opportunities and making the information technology better”. Via this project, ministry has prepared an educational portal on the web and aimed at meeting the teachers and students on this portal. So, school staff will be able to reach the materials such as presentations,applications, exam samples,etc. This portal is called EBA (eba.gov.tr). As second step, smart boards with I3 processor 4 GB RAM have been installed each class in turkey and 10.1 inch tablets have been given to both teachers and students.

Compulsory education is 12 years. 4 for Primary schools, 4 for Secondary schools and 4 for High schools. There are 5 different types of high schools. These are Applied science schools, Social science schools, Anatolian high schools,vocational high schools and Fine arts and Sport schools. First 3 types prepare students for the university. The students take TEOG exam at the end of secondary school. According to their points, they choose their schools. The most successful students generally attend Applied Science schools. After high schools, students take university exam.

 *6.2% of the students are exposed to violation on the internet. Thus, as a protection, all internet connections in schools are provided by Ministry. These connections are filtered. Apart from this, the government has a right to ban the websites having undesirable contents.  *the school does not tolerate violation so, parents feel confident that the school will take any complaint seriously and resolve the issue in a way that protects the child.  *the school staff give necessary information to parents concerning violence of internet.  *work with the wider community such as the police and children’s services where violation is particularly serious or persistent.
