Summary of Project Views of the News: took over from last semester’s students. Duties included researching topics for each week’s show and developing a list of links to provide information for discussion centering around the changes in journalism. With the help of Travis McMillen, we produced the show and prepared it for broadcast on KBIA 91.3 FM. Intersection: We helped develop a new community discussion talk show through research, coordinating pilot programs with focus groups, analysis of findings and suggestions for those who work with the show in the future. We also developed a website for the show.
Views of the News was further developed in several ways: Videotaped every week Broadcast on CAT3 More visuals: supers, video clips Additional phone lines Live streaming video on RJI website
Intersection Research: Part 1 We collected and analyzed data using phone interviews, concerning people’s interest in a new interactive program about local issues and their willingness to engage in discussion in multiple formats. We examined two demographics: KBIA donors/listeners and university students who are active online.

Intersection Research: Part 2 Three pilot episodes with focus groups After each program, a discussion was held to get a feel for what the participants thought about the show We took notes as well as video and audio recordings. Participants had a lot of positive thoughts and areas of opportunity for the show. Some things were brought to our attention that no one else on the Intersection team had considered before.
Focus Group Feedback Host managed discussion well Smooth transition into caller/text questions Correlation between online chat and panelists Debate and discussion
Feedback Continued Time to prepare for discussion topic Narrow the discussion topic Interaction with panelists after the show Likelihood of participation
