Identify the process In the first paragraph Why do you need to know about this process? – Your mother has asked that you take up the wonderful task of washing dishes. To her surprise, you have never paid attention to the countless hours she has completed this chore on her own. Yet, she insists you do it yourself. Follow these steps so you can help pick up the slack. Before you begin, you will need…

Materials needed In the first paragraph What is needed for the process? – Dishwashing liquid – Sink – Warm water – Sponge or dishcloth – Dirty dishes

Sequential steps Put steps in order for the reader – Run water in sink until warm. – Place stopper in sink. – Squeeze one teaspoon of soap in running water. – Fill sink until two-thirds full. – Turn off water. – Wash dishes.

Transitions  at first  initially  begin by  later  before  while  then  during  as soon as  meanwhile  when  until  at last  finally Use signal words like these to highlight a next step.

What not to do Inform reader about what not to do in the process – It is important to not skip any steps in this process. – Avoid pouring too much soap in the water. – Cold water will not get your dishes clean. – Do not wash heavily soiled pots and pans before the less dirty plates and glasses.
