THE FOUNDATION ST. CHARLES BORROMEO WAS CHOSEN PATRON OF THE CONGREGATION, SINCE ITS FOUNDATION IN 1684 COINCIDED WITH HIS DEATH CENTENARY. ST. CHARLES BORROMEO WAS A GREAT PIONEER IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND A GREAT REFORMER OF THAT TIME. HE CHERISHED THE CHURCH AND LOVED THE POOR. AN AUSTERE MAN, HE LED A DEDICATED LIFE AND SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS OF GOD’S KINGDOM. OUR FOUNDER FR. ADRIEN BRESY WAS INSPIRED BY HIS DEVOUT LIFE AND WISHED THAT THE SISTERS IMITATE THIS HUMBLE AND YET GREAT SAINT.

THE INSPIRATION Since we do not have the writings of our founder, we presume that he was moved by the life of St. Charles Borromeo. The spirituality of St. Charles Borromeo was derived from the spirituality of St. Ignatius.

THE SAINT AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS BROTHER FREDERICK, ST. CHARLES WITHDREW AT ONCE INTO A JESUIT HOUSE TO MAKE THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES UNDER THE DIRECTION OF FR. RIBERA. LATER HE HAD RECOURSE TO THIS PIOUS PRACTICE OF THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES AT LEAST ONCE EVERY YEAR AND SOMETIMES TWICE. FOR ST. CHARLES PILGRIMAGES WERE RELIGIOUS EXERCISES. ST. CHARLES HAD A TENDER DEVOTION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY.

THE SOCIETY OF JESUS INSPIRED THE FOUNDING OF OTHER ORDERS DEVOTED TO MINISTERING TO PEOPLE, PREACHING THE GOSPEL, EDUCATION AND INTEGRATING PRAYER WITH ACTION. THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES IS A PATTERN OF CONTEMPLATION, MEDITATION, PRAYER, INSTRUCTIONS AND EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE HIGHLY PRIZED BY ST. CHARLES BORROMEO
