KAREN CULTURE  BY: THAY EH TAR TAW

KAREN MONEY  KAREN PEOPLE USE THAI MONEY AND BURMESE MONEY.  Karen people who live in Thailand use Thai money and people who live in Burma use Burmese money.  Thai Burmese

Arts This is my favorite kind of art because it reminds me of my homeland. My house in Thailand is similar to these houses.

Languages  Most Karen people speak Sgaw Karen and Poe Karen.  Sgaw Karen Poe Karen Some Karen people speak many languages. Some people can speak Thai, Burmese, Poe Karen, Sgaw Karen, and Karenni. I can speak Sgaw Karen and little bit of Burmese.

Places Where We Live  Karen people live in the jungle. Their homes are made of wood, bamboo, and leaves. Every year, we make a new home.

Country  We live in Asia. The countries that we live in are Burma and Thailand.  Where we live, we have mountains, rivers, streams, and valleys.

Flag Karen flagMeaning  It has a sun symbol and it means that we live in the south. The colors on the flag mean: Red is for heroism White is for purity Blue is for honesty and peace. Form: Karen Drum Publications

Food, Ways of Eating  We mostly eat rice every day.  We also eat:  soup  chili  vegetable  fish past  papayas  bamboo  This is Karen Food, we eat with our hands.  My favorite food is Fish Past and Bamboo.

Clothing THESE STUDENTS ARE WEARING KAREN CLOTHES. WE USE LOOMS AND TREES TO MAKE THESE CLOTHES. THESE CLOTHES ARE MOSTLY MADE BY HAND. MY FAVORITE CLOTHING IS TAE KOO, AND IT’S VERY USEFUL IF YOU ARE LIVING IN THE JUNGLE.

GOVERNMENT  Karen people don’t have their own country, but they have a state called Karen State. Karen state is inside of Burma.  Karen government is a kind of democracy. People fight for freedom from Burmese military.

Religions  Most Karen people are Christians and Buddhists.  In the picture the Buddha is fat; it means wealthy in spirituality. Buddhists want peace and to have a good life.  Christians believe that Jesus takes away the sin of the world.

 A PLACE WHERE I WOULD LIKE TO GO  I would like to go to Vietnam and India because I like their foods and clothing. Vietnam has a lot beautiful places, so I would like to go there, and I love their hats. In India, I have some friends that are from there, so I would like to go visit them.
