Different Names  Grasslands are called different things in different place  Prairies: U.S, Midwest  Pampas: South America  Eurasian  Savannas: Africa  Although they have different names, they all have the main vegetation of grass

Location  Grasslands are usually located between forests and deserts  They exist on every continent except Antarctica, though many have been turned in to farms.  Also, grasslands are found where there is not enough rainfall for a forest, but enough so it doesn’t form a desert.

Location of grasslands around the world.

Types  Grasslands are generally open and flat.  There are two types of grasslands  Temperate  Tropical Tropical Temperate

 They average about 10 and 30 inches of rain per year  The grass is usually on the short side, sometimes only millimeters.  They have a growing season and a dormant season.  The animals include:  Deer  Gazelle  Jackrabbits  Mice  Snake  Coyotes

Tropical  They are warm year round but have a dry and rainy season  Some grasses here can grow more than 7 ft tall  The animals include:  Giraffes  Elephants  Rhinos  Zebras  Lions  Hyenas  and Warthogs.
