HW and Expectations HW will be listed on class website. Students should be reading at least 30 minutes each night in their independent reading books. Students will always need an independent reading book, and a “book on deck.”

How Can I Help my Student Succeed? Monitor reading and help students find the best place/time to read with minimal distractions. Discuss reading with students. Model reading behavior. Encourage students to explore bookstores and libraries.

Reading Workshop Approach Read aloud Mini-lesson Guided Practice Meaningful independent reading Book Clubs Conferences Reader Response Journals Choices

Vocabulary Study Word of the Day - definition, sentence, movement or pose. Quizzes every 10 words. Spell and define words, use five in sentence.

Grammar A brushstroke is based on the premise that a writer is much like an artist who "paints" images, using grammatical structures as tools. For example, writers use adjectives to paint more details as they write. The student, determined and intrepid, marched bravely into his new school.

Technology Integration One-to-one netbooks Study Island Prezi Powerpoint Blogs School Weebly New Eno board – Thanks to EFLS!

Grading Students will be graded on a point system. Please access Parent Portal on a regular basis. Report cards and mid- marking period progress will only appear online.

Plea for our classroom library… We always welcome new books. If you have age-appropriate books that you would like to clean out, we’d be happy to add them to our classroom library.
