Erickson’s Theory Generativity vs. Stagnation (Middle Adult) Intimacy vs Isolation (Young Adult) Intimacy you form intimate, loving relationships with other people, primarily through marriage and friends. If negotiating this stage is successful, can experience intimacy on a deep level. If not successful, isolation and distance from others may occur. Generativity vs. Stagnation (Middle Adult) Develop generativity you: give back to society through being productive at work, becoming involved in community activities and organizations & raising children. Develop stagnation: self-absorbed and feel little connection to others Integrity vs. Despair (Older Adult) Integrity = accept their lives as a success, accepting successes and failures Despair = face regrets & missed opportunities

20’s – maximum efficiency Adulthood (18-Death) Physical Development 20’s – maximum efficiency 30’s-60’s – aging begins & increases 4 most prevalent chronic disease: *diabetes, *arthritis, *heart disease, *high blood pressure Social 90% marry….50% divorce J-o-B 3 factors to a Successful Marriage: What do you think? 1) Communication / Conflict / Compromise 2) Respect / Trust 3) How often you share intimate moments

Crystallized – vs. – Fluid Intelligence Types of Intelligence Crystallized – Ability to use accumulated knowledge and learned in appropriate situations Increases with age and experience Fluid Ability to solve abstract relational problems and to generate new hypothesis Nervous system declines, so does this intelligence Crystallized is memories and that gets stronger Fluid is ability to learn new information (such as using technology)
