COMPREHENSIVE KIP

O S I T I O N IndonesiaIndonesia Indonesia is situated in South East Asia with the Pacific Oceans on Eastern Side and Indonesia Oceans on the southern side, having as its neighbours the Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Australia. Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta, the Capital of Republic of Indonesia. It is situated in Java Island on the eastern side. Surabaya is the capital of East Java Province. BACKGROUND Kampung Improvement Program (KIP) had been implemented in Kota Surabaya since 1968 with goals in improving physical enviroment. Implementation for the program is first initiated by Municipality of Surabaya under Major’s independent institution known as Executing Board for Kampong Imrovement Program (BAPPEMKIP) which is establihed from several related agencies workgroups.

The implementation of the program is proved to succeed and earn international achievement of UNCHS’s World Habitat Award in Considering its achievement, KIP is a potential program to be developed, not just in physical aspects but also to other aspects that are needed for improving quality of life. Base on community involvement concept and more focusing in empowering concept, the sustainable and acceptability program of “COMPREHENSIVE KIP” is launched.

PROGRAM FRAMEWORK Comprehensive Kampong Improvement Program in Surabaya Municipality is a community-based development in improving quality of kampong environment and sustainability of development.

Comprehensive KIP is formulated & implemented prominently using Bottom Up approach where implementation of the activities are purely held by the community themselves

OBJECTIVE Build empowerment and independency of kampong community to develop their living enviroment continuossly. Encourage the kampong community to identify and solve their own needs and obstacles.

Encourage the kampong community to plan, implement and evaluate the development of their living environment. Improve the capability of the community to discover, develop and mobilize any resources nearby. Improve social- economic capability of the community
