Dorset County Council SEACS Project – Work Package 3 (Schools) Update November 2011 – March 2012 Meetings with 10 schools to discuss Energy Awareness Campaigns  Plus discussions with clusters of schools to progress joint projects Energy Saving Action Plans developed with 6 schools  Schools to be revisited in the Summer Term to discuss progress and long term plans 14% reduction in electricity consumption from schools already engaged in carbon reduction campaigns Approximate savings of £21,000 during Autumn Term tonnes CO 2 saved from reduction in electricity consumption

Energy Audits carried out by a Senior Engineer (Nathan Berry)  Full Energy Audit 2 schools surveys but need to be issued 1 school due to be surveyed  Lighting Surveys4 schools surveyed and proposals issued 3 schools surveyed but assessments still need to be made Dorset County Council A number of Dorset Secondary Schools have seemed keen to be involved and share experience with other SEACS schools NEXT STEP: Invitations sent to SEACS schools before the end of March 2012 to allow schools to express an interest in the project

Frome Valley First School Pupils at Frome Valley First School have worked hard to reduce their Display Energy Certificate Rating from a C to a B! The school have reduced their energy usage by raising awareness and also installing some technical measures: Timers on electrical equipment Pull cords on hard to reach switches!

The Wey Valley School and Sports College The Eco-Committee have reduced their electricity consumption by: Giving pupils permission to turn off lights in classrooms and corridors when not in use Installing PC ‘Powerdown’ Software to make sure that all computers are switched off before the end of the day Communicating with staff members through a weekly ‘Bullet-In’ Integrating energy saving into the curriculum Calculating potential savings from electrical equipment in Mathematics lessons Developing ways to measure, monitor and display energy consumption in Design and Technology and IT lessons

Bovington First School Pupils at Bovington First School have worked closely with the caretaker to reduce their ‘Out of Hours’ energy consumption by nearly 50%. Pupils monitor electricity usage daily Bovington First School won a Carbon Trust ‘Low Carbon Schools’ Award in February 2012 Monthly competition for the best ‘energy saving class’
