A Piece of Pie in....
A collaborative task in the eTwinning project A Taste of Maths
The Recipe Ingredients for 10 portions For the dough * 1,75 cups flour * a pinch of salt, * 3/4 cup margarine/butter cut into small pieces, * 4-5 tablespoons of cold water. For the filling * 6 cups of apples cut into cubes, * one cup sugar * cinnamon or other spices if you prefer One cup = 250 grams One tablespoon = 20 grams
The Recipe Preparation: Mix the flour with salt, then with pieces of margarine / butter and then gradually add the water. When you got a dense and uniform mass of dough, form a bubble, wrap it in foil and put it in the refrigerator for an hour. After you take the dough out of the refrigerator, divide it into two parts and turn each of them into a round flat sheet slightly larger that the diameter of the baking pan.Take one round tart pan greased well with butter or margarine and place the first sheet insde (it should be big enough to cover the margins), then pour the apples over the dough. Then put a second sheet over the apples and carefully apply pressure on the margins with a fork to make them stick together. The pie is to be baked for 15 minutes at 210 degrees C, then for minutes at 180 degrees C.
The Tasks 1. Calculate the ingredients you need for the number of portions according to your group, in grams. 2. Calculate the ratio between the flour and the butter. 3. Calculate how much a portion of the pie would cost- show us your calculations and the unit costs for each ingredient.
The Tasks 4. Calculate the baking temperatures assuming your oven is labeled in Farenheit, not Celsius. Use the formula F=9/5*C Optional: bake the pie and show it to the partners!
Piece of pie, isn’t it? Enjoy the task, and the pie!
