CONCEPTUAL SHIFTS K–12 science education should reflects real-world interconnections in science. The NGSS are student outcomes and are explicitly NOT curriculum. Science concepts build coherently across K–12. The NGSS focus on deeper understanding and application of content. Science and engineering are integrated in K–12 science education. The NGSS are designed to prepare students for college, careers, and citizenship. Science standards coordinate with English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics Common Core State Standards. 6
