Paragraph Writing

Topic Sentence Every paragraph starts with a topic sentence It introduces the topic of the paragraph and the controlling idea. The controlling idea tells the reader what will be said about the topic. Ex. High school is a challenging experience.

Supporting Sentences/The Body The body of a paragraph has supporting sentences It gives detail to develop the main idea of the paragraph. ( more about this later)

The Concluding Sentence The Concluding Sentence re-states the Topic Sentence in another way. Ex. In conclusion, being a high school students

The PEE Method

Time to PEE on our Writing PEE stands for Point, Evidence and Explanation. By using this formula you will create an effective and strong paragraph. These are the Supporting Sentences of your paragraph. P – Introduces the point you want to make E - Gives examples/reasons/facts to you reader to support your point. E- Explains how your examples connect to your point

PEE Method Topic: Describe Riverside high school Point – Riverside is a wonderful school because of the many extra-curricular activities that are available to students. Evidence – Riverside offers extra-curricular activities from sports, to clubs to the arts. For example, during the fall, we have a swim team, junior and varsity volleyball. We also offer clubs like the multi-cultural club, green club and poetry club. Explanation – Having a variety of extra-curricular activities offered makes Riverside a more enjoyable school and therefore a great school to attend.
