Ends the War of Spanish Succession (1702- 1713) Treaty of Utrecht Ends the War of Spanish Succession (1702- 1713)

Terms of the treaty are as follows: (PS- this treaty still has effects on the geography of Europe!!)

1. Philip V was allowed to keep Spain and its colonies

2) The Spanish and French thrones were never to be allowed to be combined!!!!

3) Austria was given the Spanish Netherlands 3) Austria was given the Spanish Netherlands.(so now they are called the Austrian Netherlands.)

4. Austria also gets Naples, Milan and Sardinia.

5) Savoy gets Sicily and is recognized as a kingdom (retains hold on Italy until 1866)
