LESSON 38 CONNECTIONS 1. What does the Bible teach about Jesus’ exaltation? Jesus descended into hell, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will return in glory to judge all people.

LESSON 38 CONNECTIONS 2. Katie said, “Jesus claims that he is God’s Son and our Savior. But how do we know that is true?” How might you answer that question using Romans 1:4 and Christ’s resurrection as proof? The resurrection demonstrated with power that Jesus is the Son of God. It also showed that God accepted his Son’s sacrifice and that all Jesus said about himself is true.

LESSON 38 CONNECTIONS 3. If the Bible didn’t tell us that Jesus rose from the dead, we might wonder if we are still in our sins. Why? We might think that Satan had defeated Christ by killing him. But now we know that Jesus conquered death and Satan. Our sins are forgiven.

LESSON 38 CONNECTIONS 4. Grandpa said, “Oh, how I look forward to judgment day.” Why do you think he said that? He longed to hear Jesus say, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world” (Matthew 25:34).

1 John 14:19 “Because I live, you also will live.”

LESSON 39 CONNECTIONS 1. Why did Christ redeem us? So that we would be his own, live under him in his kingdom, and gladly serve him by obeying his commandments.

LESSON 39 CONNECTIONS 2. Explain this statement: If not for Christ’s redemption, we would still be under the power and in the kingdom of Satan? By nature we are under the power of Satan and are unable to stop sinning. If Christ had not redeemed us from Satan, we would be under the curse of death.

LESSON 39 CONNECTIONS 3. Why does the thought that Christ purchased me for his own help me resist temptation? Because he purchased me, I am no longer a slave to sin. When I think of the high price he willingly paid, I want to show my thanks by my obedience.

LESSON 39 CONNECTIONS 4. “I don’t seem to fit in,” Sara sighed. “Most of the kids in school use bad language. Their parents let them watch movies my parents don’t let me watch. And they regularly cheat on homework and tests.” What encouragement could Sara find in 1 Peter 2:9-11? We don’t fit in. We are strangers in this world. Heaven is our home. How wonderful! Jesus has freed us from slavery to the sinful nature so that we can live in obedience to him.

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried…

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed What does this mean? I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord…

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as he has risen from death and lives and rules eternally. This is most certainly true.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED – 3 RD ARTICLE THE HOLY SPIRIT Lesson 40 Faith Foundations Course One

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?

IN PERSON 1.What do the following passages tell us about God? a. Genesis 1:26 God spoke of himself in the plural (more than one person) b. Deuteronomy 6:4 God makes it plain that there is one God

IN PERSON 1.What do the following passages tell us about God? c. Matthew 28:19 We are told to make disciples in the name of the three persons of the Godhead: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. d. 2 Corinthians 13:14 This passage also points to three persons in the Godhead: Jesus, God (the Father) and the Holy Spirit.

IN PERSON 2.What do we call the Scripture teaching that God is three persons but one God? Trinity. God is triune. 3 in 1. Tri = 3 Une = 1

IN PERSON 3.Recall the account of the baptism of Jesus in Mark 1:9-11. What part did all three persons of the Godhead have in the baptism of Jesus? Jesus, God’s Son, was baptized. The Holy Spirit descended on him like a dove. The voice from heaven (the Father) spoke the words.

IN PERSON 4.Read 1 Corinthians 3:16. Paul was talking about using our bodies to glorify and honor God. Your body, he said, is a temple of the Holy Spirit. How does that statement also show that the Holy Spirit is part of the Godhead? A temple is a place of worship. Only God is to be worshiped. The Holy Spirit is God. And only God could dwell in our bodies as his temple.

IN PERSON 5. Paul reminded the Corinthians that their bodies were temples of the Holy Spirit so they would be careful not to use their bodies for sin and so desecrate the temple. How does the knowledge that our bodies are temples of the Spirit keep us form the following?

IN PERSON 5a. Using illegal drugs We don’t want to use our bodies to break the law and thus sin against God. Also, using drugs hurts our bodies. We don’t want to hurt God’s temple.

IN PERSON 5b. Getting drunk Getting drunk also hurts our bodies. It also affects our judgment so that we might use our bodies to commit other sins. We don’t want to do that.

IN PERSON 5c. Driving 100 miles per hour down the road Besides breaking the law, we would be putting our bodies (God’s temple) in harm’s way, and we would be tempting God to destroy the temple.

IN PERSON 5d. Committing adultery We don’t want to use the temple of the Holy Spirit for immoral purposes that would violate both the temple and God’s commands.

KEY POINT #1 The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity.

IN POWER 6.Recall the account of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-10. How did Peter know Ananias was lying? The Holy Spirit revealed it to him.

IN POWER 7.How did Peter emphasize the seriousness of Ananias’ lie? He scolded him by saying that by lying to the Holy Spirit, he was lying to God.

IN POWER 8.Read Psalm 139:7,8. What truth does this passage reveal about the Spirit? He is everywhere.

IN POWER 9.What does that prove about the Holy Spirit? He is God.

IN POWER 10.Think of some circumstances in which you would find great comfort in the truth expressed in this passage. If you were a long way from home or lonely, you would know that God’s Spirit is still with you.

IN POWER 11.What do 1 Corinthians 3:16 and 12:6,11 tell us about the Holy Spirit? He is God.

IN POWER 12.Read Job 33:4. Why do we know the Spirit is God? He does what only God can do.

IN POWER 13.Sharon was trying to teach her friend about the Bible and what the Bible says. “The Holy Spirit breathed into the authors the words they were to write,” Sharon told her. “But how do we know if it is the truth?” her friend asked. How would you answer? The Holy Spirit is God. He doesn’t lie, and he has the power to make sure the authors wrote the truth.

KEY POINT #2 The Holy Spirit is true God.

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT? 1.The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity. 2.The Holy Spirit is true God. SUMMARY The Holy Spirit, together with the Father and the Son, is true God.
