Digital Art Unit Essential Questions Painting a Line Drawing (Photoshop) Painting from a Photo (Photoshop) Creating Vector Artwork (Illustrator) Wednesday, Nov. 2006

Digital Art Essential Questions What is the difference between bitmapped/raster images and vector images? –What determines which type of image (bitmapped or vector) you use? –Which computer programs do you use to create both? What is the difference between painting in Photoshop versus Illustrator? –Tell the steps you used in each programs to create each painting project.

Painting a Line Drawing in PS Open Photoshop and Open one of your cartoon/coloring book images or your scanned artwork Image>Mode and change it to CMYK Image>Image Size –Resolution: 300 ppi –Document Size: Width or Height 5 inches Wed. Nov. 15, 2006-Wed. Nov. 29, 2006

Continued… Painting Technique –Click on the template layer and select a section to work on using a selection tool Save EVERY selection so you can go back The selection will keep you limited inside your lines –Begin painting Select the background painting layer Select the brush tool and a brush you like Choose a color for the base of your painting Carefully begin painting!

Continued… Add Shadows and Highlights on 2 new layers –Use white for highlights & black for shadows Set opacity to 15% Carefully paint without overlapping Add texture –Pick different brushes for areas that need texture Grass, stars, leaves, fur, paint dabs, grainy sand, etc.

Continued… Last step!!!! –Use the smudge tool to smear the Template layer Make the lines look painted, not pixelated! Make thin lines out with the eraser tool
