Emergency Exhaust If a spill occurs inside hood then press this button to increase exhaust flow Fume Hood Standard Operating Procedures If Hood Alarm Activates: It indicates an improper exhaust flow. Close sashes completely. Contact the stockroom manager or CHO immediately. You may mute the alarm ONLY if sash is in full upright position during equipment set-up / removal. 1.PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES! 2.Keep sashes and hood countertop clean -- wash them regularly! 2.Keep all sashes closed except when actually manipulating objects within the hood. 3.If vertical sash is open then horizontal sashes must be closed (in an overlapping manner). 4.Do not operate hood with vertical sash higher than 18 ” (except during set-up/take-down). 5.If any horizontal sash is open then vertical sash must be completely down. 6.Position horizontal sash in front of you so that it acts as a safety shield. 1.Press “Emergency Exhaust” & “Mute” buttons simultaneously. Hold for 3-5 seconds. 2.A flashing “oFF?” will appear. 3.Press the “Mute” button. 4.The hood will enter stand-by mode; you will hear the exhaust flow decrease. To Place Hood in Energy-Saving Mode: To Return Hood to Operating Mode: Simply open any sash; allow airflow rate to stabilize around 60 fpm (takes ca. 3 seconds) Horizontal Sashes: Must be closed so that the sashes overlap each other. Sashes closed Sashes not closed

Our Hoods have Outstanding Containment (note that these fumes are being pulled back into the hood, even though the fumes are being generated outside of the hood) Rapid-response exhaust when sash is moved (mpeg - click on image)

Vertical Sash: not above posted levels Sash self-levels to 18” (mpeg - click on image) (if a sash does not lower properly then let Pat know)

Use Sashes as Safety Shields ( this will protect the torso if there was a fire or large splash ) Sash Lock: Use only during set-up/take-down

Horizontal Sashes MUST Overlap All Correct Correct Incorrect Correct

Keep the Sashes & Countertops CLEAN!! Make the cleaning of the sashes & countertops a required daily/weekly duty of your TA/Researcher (the sashes need to stay as squeaky clean as when they were installed)
