Structure and Strategies ( 各部分应试策略 ) Essay questions and their exam techniques ( 问 答题以及答题要领 ) Contents

Exam Structure & Strategies

Strategies for Literary Fundamentals (文学常识应对策略) Read the textbook carefully because all the literary terms and concepts are taken from it. You can list all the literary terms and concepts in your notebook and make a summary. That will be easier for you to read and remember. Follow the focal points carefully. Remember you can’t easily learn those terms and concepts by heart. It takes time. Many students complain this course is difficult to learn and are afraid of it. If you like it and have a positive attitude, it helps you understand and remember better.

Strategies for Section II (戏剧和诗歌分析的应对策略) For poems, short answer questions are concerning theme, image, rhyme scheme, figure of speech, types of poems, etc. For drama, short answer questions are concerning stage directions, settings, scenario, theme and character analysis, etc. You need to prepare well and then you can answer the short answer questions well.

Strategies for Understanding Shakespeare 1.For the selected reading in this part of the exam, you are required to paraphrase the three underlined sentences. 2. For the paraphrase, you use simple language to explain difficult sentences. 3. You must use complete sentences to explain.

Strategies for short story and writing 1.These two sections are connected. First you must understand the story and do the questions as required. Then you rewrite the story according to the instruction. 2.The story is long and takes your patience to read carefully. 3.When you rewrite, you must follow the instruction. If you write in the right direction, usually you get a good score.

Read the following two samples In order to show you how to paraphrase Shakespeare's work, I give you two samples in order to make it clear to you.

Shakespeare’s Othello It’s most true. True, I have married her: The very head and front of my offending Has this extent, not more. Paraphrase: It’s most true that I have married her. That’s the only misdeed I am accused of.

Shakespeare’s Othello Since these arms of mine had seven years’ pith, Till now, some nine moons wasted, they have us’d Their dearest action in the tented field; Paraphrase: Since I was a child of seven, all my efforts have been concentrated on my military profession, except for the last nine months.

The End Wish you success!
