Building our lives on the WORD OF GOD
The Apostle Paul wrote, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)
God has a good plan for our life which begins the moment that we give our life to Jesus Christ The Apostle Paul wrote, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
The Bible makes it clear That no past failures Our current circumstances Our age, or Even our education Will stop God from using us in a mighty way to make a great impact in this world for eternity if we commit our lives to Jesus
God chose David to be Israel’s next King when he was a Shepherd boy
When the prophet Jeremiah was in prison the LORD said to him “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
God’s plan for our life is far greater than we could ever imagine The Apostle Paul wrote, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20)
A great key to being all that God has planned for our life is to build our life on the Word of God The LORD said to Joshua “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)
1) It is a key to growing in our faith and to There are many reasons why it is so important to build our life on the Word of God 1) It is a key to growing in our faith and to remaining strong in our faith when we are going through tests and trials in our life The Apostle Paul wrote “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
There are many promises in God’s Word that are available for all believers As believers we need to build our life based on what God says about us in His Word The Apostle Paul wrote, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
We see one of these many promises in the gospel of Matthew Jesus Himself said, “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ Or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:31-33)
2) It is a key to gaining wisdom to build our lives on a firm foundation – The bible is full of wisdom to help us to make right choices in life In Psalm 119 we read, “Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me.” (Psalm 119:97-98)
WISDOM SUCH AS: The importance of loving and forgiving others (John 13:34-35) (Mark 11:25-26) The importance of choosing good friends (1 Corinthians 15:33) The importance of not dwelling on our past failures (Philippians 3:12-14) The importance of having a clear God given vision for our life and future (Habakkuk 2:2-3) (Proverbs 29:18) The importance of prayer and involving God in all that we do in life (1 Thessalonians 5:17) (Proverbs 3:5-6) and The importance of growing in Christlike character (Romans 8:28-29) (Matthew 5:16)
3) It is a key to receiving guidance and direction in life to help us to not stumble in our walk with the Lord (God speaks to us through His Word – Daily we have need of God’s guidance in our life) In Psalm 119 we read, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105) “Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.” (Psalm 119:133)
4) It helps us to be equipped and prepared to be all that God has planned for our life The Apostle Paul wrote, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
5) It helps us to grow in our knowledge of God’s love for us (The Bible is full of Scriptures that reveal God’s great love for us) The Apostle Paul wrote, “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
6) It helps us to learn how to live a God glorifying life as we renew our mind with Kingdom thinking – What it is to live as a Christian Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see you good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
7)We receive encouragement when we look at the accounts of God’s faithfulness to His people in the past. The Bible is full of accounts of God’s faithfulness to His people in the past such as His parting of the Red Sea to make a way of escape for the Children of Israel and how He helped Gideon to defeat an enemy army of 135,000 with an army of just 300 men. We see also how Jesus fed about 5,000 men with just five loaves and two fish. (Luke 9:12-17) “For with God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)
“Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) The bible makes it clear that God is always able and willing to help us in our time of need The Apostle John wrote, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. (1 John 5:14-15)
8) God will also often speak a word of encouragement to us when we are reading His Word. The Holy Spirit will often highlight passages of Scripture to encourage us when we are going through trials and challenges The book of Psalms is also full of encouraging psalms such as Psalm 23 and Psalm 63 which can also be read to encourage us when we are going through tough times In the book of Proverbs we read, “A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” (Proverbs 15:23)
In conclusion, it is so importance that we are both hearers and DOERS of the Word of God (That we apply the Word of God to our lives) Jesus Himself said, “Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27)
