Maintenance Activities. Produced by Neil Liggett. What are the health & safety implications?

Maintenance Activities. Maintenance – The process of inspection, overhaul, repair, preservation and the replacement of parts. Tooling, machinery, equipment, devices, components – all terms lending to maintenance activities.

Maintenance Activities. What dangers lend themselves to Maintenance? Manual handling/carrying & lifting, Use of chemicals & substances, Electricity & other power sources i.e. hydraulics & pneumatics, Noise, Fumes, How are these dangers controlled?

Maintenance Activities. PPE:

Maintenance Activities. PPE – personal protective equipment. Be wise this should be considered the last line of defence! Do not rely on PPE to control danger. The implementation of Regulations & Training is the control mechanism!

Maintenance Activities. Regulations to consider- PUWER COSHH LOLER RIDDOR PPE

Maintenance Activities. Hazards from work equipment, m achines can cause injury in five main ways - Entrapment where parts of the body, such as fingers, are caught in parts of a machine. Impact where the body is crushed by moving parts or by items being processed. Contact where the body touches sharp edges, hot items, live electrical items or abrasive surfaces. Entanglement where parts of the body, such as hair, or clothing or jewellery become caught in parts of a machine. Ejection where parts of a machine or materials being used fly out and hit the body.

Maintenance Activities. A propeller turning at only 300 revolutions a minute, would slash through body parts 5 times a second causing horrendous injuries, amputation or even death.
