The Norwegian Royal Family The present King of Norway, Harald V and the Norwegian Royal Family are highly respected among its people. When the Norwegians elected their first King in 500 years in 1905 they chose his grandfather, the Danish prince Carl to become King Haakon VII of Norway.

Facts About Norway The official name of Norway is the Kingdom of Norway! Norway’s rain is full of acid! Norway is the most Northerly country! Norway has a system of Government that includes the Constitutional Monarchy!

Fjords A fjord is formed when a glacier cuts a U-shaped valley by abrasion of the surrounding bedrock.abrasion Fjords generally have a sill or rise at their mouth caused by the previous glacier's terminal moraine, in many cases causing extreme currents.sillterminal moraine Norway is often described as the world's strongest tidal current.tidal current These characteristics distinguish fjords from rias (e.g. the Bay of Kotor), which are drowned valleys flooded by the rising sea.riasBay of Kotor

Glaciers A glacier is a large persistent body of ice that forms where the accumulation of snow exceeds its ablation over many years, often centuries.icesnowablation At least 0.1 km² in area and 50 m thick, but often much larger, a glacier slowly deforms and flows due to stresses induced by its weight. Glaciers form on land, often elevated, and are distinct from the much thinner sea ice and lake ice that form on the surface of bodies of water.sea ice
