THE NEW KINGDOM Chapter 5 – Lesson 4

A Woman Pharaoh Queen Hatshepsut first woman to rule as pharaoh! **Made Egypt richer through trade Created an obelisk = four-sided shape with a pyramid-shaped top. Mysterious end – unsure how Hatshepsut died.

A Reforming Pharaoh Akhenaton 1353 B.C Tutankhamen 1333 B.C. Promoted the worship of one god for the first time in history; however, didn’t last long. Tutankhamen 1333 B.C. Rejected new religion and worshiped the old gods.

Ramses II – Ramses the Great A Powerful Pharaoh Ramses II – Ramses the Great Made Egypt powerful through war. Under his rule, Egypt expanded it’s territory south into the African kingdom of Nubia. Built a city called the House of Ramses Reigned until 1213 B.C. – he was 90 years old!
