My Zolotkovo Dear Ben, I`d like to tell you about the greatest holiday in my country and my famous great-grandfather, Vekshin Nikolay Nikolaevich. This year, on the 9 th of May, my family and I will congratulate our great-grandfather on the 70 th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. It was really a very hard time in the history of my country. My great-grandfather was born on December,25 th, 1925 in the settlement of Zolotkovo. He was only eighteen, when he was called up in He served in anti-aircraft forces of the 3d Ukrainian Front. His first battle happened in Yassko-Kishinyev operation.

My My granddad also took part in liberation of Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia. In liberation battles in Hungary his troop got into encirclement. They had to force their way during thirteen days. Fortunately, they had luck and nobody was killed, he hasn`t been even wounded in the war. “ On the day of conscription to the war I said to my mum: Don`t see me off! I`ll come back. I`ll reach Berlin and return. Believe me! I feel it with my heart.” And he was right. My granddad was demobilized on the 10 th of October He was a sergeant.

My brave great-grandfather was awarded the order of the Great Patriotic War of the second degree, the medal of Zhukov, the medals “For liberation of Belgrade”, “For caption of Wien”, “For caption of Budapest”, “For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War ” and a lot of jubilee medals. Beyond a doubt, I am very proud of my granddad, he often tells us about that time and always comes to our school to communicate with my schoolmates.
