The Nature of Emotion By Maureen Butcher

What is the Nature of Emotion? The Nature of Emotions is where the emotion begins. Emotions begin in our brain, before we actually label an emotion or feeling. Stress Fear Love

Stress Chemical Imbalance of neurotransmitters in our brain Limited # of Neurotransmitters in our brain decreases our ability to balance moods. Two Stages : Primary Appraisal Secondary Appraisal Situations that produce negative emotions are more likely to cause stress.

Fear Amygdala is the “fear center” of the brain Learned emotion Flight or Fight response Releases Cortisol Our brain tells us to avoid and escape the situation.

Nature of Emotion Love Very Intense Emotion Love occurs due to a mediation of certain molecules When we are in Love: Increase in hormones such Oxytosin or Dopamine. Feelings of Bliss

Conclusion Different Emotions Begin when certain hormones are released in our brain. These hormones cause Physiological Changes in our body. Much more complicated than we may realize. We must learn how to Identify and Manage our emotions so that we can communicate effectively.
