Sitton Spelling Program Emphasis: Correct spelling in daily writing Two ways of Grading: A.Core Words (165) – 10 new words each week tested on a dictation test. Bonus words for extra credit. B. No Excuse Words: High Frequency words that are expected to be spelled correctly on every piece of writing in every subject. Random samples will be taken for a grade. **The two scores along with class work will be averaged together to determine your child’s grade

Handwriting  D’Nealian Method  Emphasis on neatness/legibility on all assignments  Cursive: Lower case, then capitals  4 th Quarter, students will be expected to begin to write most assignments in cursive

Math Everyday Math  Emphasis on using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as they relate to problem solving  Multiplication/Division timed tests will begin approx. November-December  Hands on activities and games to reinforce concepts taught

Social Studies and Science Social Studies Character Civil War Greece/Rome Explorers Government Maps and Globes Science Plants Life Cycles Sound/Light Rocks and Minerals Earth’s Materials

Art, Music, P.E. These subjects will be taught weekly for the entire year by specialists in that field.

Homework Homework is sent home on a daily basis Monday through Thursday. Fun Friday will be rewarded to those who complete their homework and have good classroom behavior. If your child can’t complete homework due to scheduling, ALL I NEED IS A NOTE FROM YOU! Grading Scale for 3 rd Grade The District has adopted a new report card for K-5 and students will be assessed as follows: 1 = falls far below the standard 2 = approaches the standard 3 = meets the standard 4 = exceeds the standard

Birthdays We will celebrate birthdays in our class. Each student will be treated special all day! Treats are OK if they are store bought with a label. We will enjoy treats during recess breaks.

Book Orders I place Scholastic orders once a month. You can write a check for your order or you can order online using a credit card. No cash please.

Class Parties We have 4 main class parties. Please take time to sign up for a party item and I will send you a reminder note prior to the party! Thanks! Pumpkin Day Winter Celebration Valentine’s Day End of the Year/Aloha Days

Behavior Management System Classroom Rules: 1.Follow directions the first time given. 2.Show respect: Use only kind words (No putdowns). 3.Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself 4.Listen and stay focused on the speaker. 5.Respect your property and the property of others.

Behavior Management System Consequences: 1 st - Flip a Strip - YELLOW – warning 2 nd - Flip a Strip – BLUE – lose one recess 3 rd - Flip a Strip – RED – lose all recess, call parent and/or discipline slip *ALL STUDENTS START THE DAY ON GREEN Severe Behavior: Fighting, threats, profanity, open defiance are sent directly to the Principal

Positive Rewards Brain Bucks – 10 Brain Bucks earns one Homework pass! Class parties (other than main 4) Free Time Computer Time Call to parent Stickers, pencils, extra recess, praise, etc.
