Midi-Pyrénées mountains and valleys the largest region in France
Two main mountain ranges: the Pyrénées and the Massif Central
Capital is Toulouse.
Toulouse is the “Seattle” and “Dayton” of France because it is here that the French have established its aeronautics industry. The Concorde, Airbus, and Mirage are all built here.
There is a religious pilgrimage site located here. The Catholic tradition holds it that St. Bernadette was visited by Mary at Lourdes. Consequently, the town has become a very popular pilgrimage site. Traditionally, the waters that flow from a spring nearby bring healing qualities.
Roquefort is known for its cheese.
Agriculture of fruits and vegetables is important to the local economy.
Truffles also are in the economy. An expensive and hard-to-find mushroom, which is on the level of a delicacy internationally. Since they are grown underground, only dogs and pigs sniff them out.
