The numbers we write are made up of algorithms, (1, 2, 3, 4, etc) called arabic algorithms, to distinguish them from the roman algorithms (I; II; III; IV; etc.) …

The arabs popularised these algorithms, but their origin goes back to the Phoenician merchants who used them to keep track of their commercial activities – their profits and losses …

Have you ever asked the question why this figure 1 is “one”, this 2 is “two”, 3 is “three”…..? …

What is the logic behind the arabic algorithms? …

It’s Easy, very easy…! Count the angles! …

When we look at the algorithms in their most primitive form – composed only of straight lines -- we see why 1 means one … …
