The Sleeping Diary By Juan Romero

Can I have a normal sleeping pattern in college? Problem: A lot of night activities available My friends do not let me sleep I tend to go to sleep around 12 or later

Research Sleep plays a vital role in your health. Sleep dictates the way you will feel throughout the day. Studies show that a good night sleep improves your learning capabilities. Also, sleep deficiency slows down your decision making process. After several nights of a bad sleep, even if it is just an hour or two, your ability to function is drastically changed. It is as if you have not slept at all for one or two days. Sleep patterns shift for later times during adolescence. Too little sleep can lead to weight gain by altering the hormones that regulate hunger, which leads to overeating.

Teens and Sleep Sleeping is vital for a teenagers growth. The average teen requires about 9 hours of sleep each night. Although, for most teenagers 8 ½ hours a night is enough. MOST TEENS do not get ENOUGH SLEEP Lack of sleep can actually make you more prone to acne. Lack of sleep also may lead to micro-sleep. Micro-sleep refers to brief moments of sleep that occur when you're normally awake. For example, when ever you are extremely tired and do not remember how you got somewhere, it is because you have experienced this. Not sleeping can heighten the effects of alcohol and other drugs. Night terrors and confessional arousals are often made worse by sleep deprivation.

The Best and Worst The BEST sleeping position is the Back Position It prevents neck and back pain, this position makes it easier for your head and spine to maintain a neutral position. The WORST is the Stomach Position. This pose puts pressure on your joints and muscles, also not allowing you to breath properly.

My Sleep; My Time I decided to try to achieve 8 hours of sleep every night for about five days. Here it is how it went…. Saturday I went to sleep at 2:30 a.m. Woke up at 10 a.m. Sunday I felt great. Energized and ready to do something. I was in an average mood throughout the day. I went to sleep at 12 a.m. Monday Woke up around 9 a.m. There was no need for the alarm to go off. My appetite leaned mainly towards fruit for breakfast. My day went well for the most part, I was not tired during the day. Went to sleep at 12:30 a.m.

Tuesday Woke up at 9 a.m. with an alarm because I had an appointment. Had no breakfast since I did not want to be late. Felt joy all throughout the day. Went to sleep at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday Woke up at 8:00 a.m. to get ready for work. I was in a bad mood for the start of the day. I ate a lot of junk food. Around 5:00 p.m. I took a power-nap Since it was the last day, I just went to sleep at my usual time, 12:00 a.m.

Conclusion Sleeping is great! That is something that everyone can gladly agree to. I realized on the last day of my project that although I had roughly 6 ½ hours of sleep, I felt extremely tired throughout the day. My mood was determined primarily by my sleeping patterns. The days that I best slept were the days that I best ate.
