IET 120 – CONSTRUCTION DESIGN ALTERNATIVE GREEN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY
dWELLING Multi-unit one story with enclosed courtyard/green space
Square Footage 500 Square feet per unit 4000 Total Square Feet
LOCATION Los Mangos, Colon, Panama
BUILDING MATERIALS Insulating Concrete Form (ICF) building systems traditional and green building techniques utilized in Panama Bamboo and Corkwood sustainable products natural and renewable to the country of Panama
BUILDING MATERIALS (CON’T) passive and active solar electricity, water, heating and cooling designs photovoltaic module roofing tiles
FLOOR PLAN LAYOUT We had 4000 square feet for 50 people us we decided to build eight 500 square foot units, designed to form an enclosed courtyard/green space. Each unit has 2 bedrooms, (bedroom one has two sets of bunk beds and bedroom two has a queen bed) and then there’s a built-in murphy’s bed built into the wall of the living area in each unit for a third sleeping area This design was choose to keep with the building style and culture of Colon, Panama

CONCLUSION I learned a lot about how much green technology has improved since 2004 when I taught drafting. We learned that the photovoltaic module roofing tiles can now be in built into roofing shingles and different types of roofing tiles. There have been many improvements in the alternative Green building technology and costs are becoming more affordable. We have learned about the different types of solar and other alternative energy sources. We have attached links to some of the websites we used in doing our research.
