Basic expedition training lesson 1 - introduction

Before we begin… In the event of an emergency, please leave by the nearest exit quickly and quietly and go to the muster point, where a nominal roll will be taken.

BEFORE WE BEGIN… If you have any questions at any time, feel free to pop your hand up and I will answer them for you

1) Introduction to Expedition Training Basic expedition training covers 2 lessons – 1) Introduction to Expedition Training 2) Countryside Code Today we will be looking at Lesson 1

introduction Expedition training can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing, so it is important that you receive certain training before you go. Different levels of training will be required dependant upon how difficult the expedition is expected to be. Training will include….

1) The Countryside CODE You will be taught the Countryside Code so that you understand how to treat land and property with respect

2) Building the team You will be taught how to build the team so that you are able to work as a member of a team and support other team members

3) EXPEDITION EQUIPMENT You will be taught about expedition equipment so you have the correct clothing and equipment to ensure the expedition is carried out in comfort and safety

4) Load carrying You will be taught how to load carry correctly so you are able to carry the required load without suffering exhaustion or injury

5) The camp site You will be taught about the camp site so you understand how to live outdoors in comfort and safety

6) Food and cooking You will be taught about food and how to cook so you will be able to prepare and cook a nourishing meal

7) debriefing You will be taught how to take part in a debrief so you can reflect on the expedition and learn lessons from the experience
