LIVING WITH OUR CHANGING CLIMATE (Indian Ocean Climate Initiative)

Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia FESA was established on 1 January 1999 by bringing together the existing fire and emergency services agencies and departments in Western Australia.

Who is FESA? State Emergency Service Fire Services –Fire & Rescue Service –Bush Fire Service Volunteer Marine Rescue Services Emergency Management Services Community Safety Business Services Human Services

Overview of Service In addition to providing emergency response, FESA through its volunteers, staff and partners also undertake a wide-range of prevention and preparedness programs and assist the community with recovery after emergencies.

Community Safety Conducts research into safety issues within the community which is used to design suitable programs and strategies for volunteers and staff to increase the safety of their communities. This includes schools and community education, environmental issues, incident investigation and structural building safety.

Prevention? To increase community awareness of hazards and involvement in minimising their impact In partnership, develop and implement prevention and awareness initiatives. Influence and support responsible authorities and agencies to ensure appropriate building codes, zoning and land use management strategies are in place. Conducting building and plan inspections and encouraging compliance. Initiating or supporting the development of appropriate legislation.

Preparedness? To provide and maintain appropriate and adequate infrastructure, equipment, skilled personnel, plans and programs in preparation for emergencies Ensuring adequate human and physical resources Ensuring operational plans and procedures Ensuring operational response plans are related to the communities they will serve Influencing the application of appropriate emergency management arrangements Assisting the community and local governments in their own preparations for emergencies
