Basic Atomic Structure 12/10/12. Part I: Subatomic Particles subatomic particle = a particle found inside the atom. There are 3 types of subatomic particles:
 Nucleus contains most of the mass of the atom ◦ Protons and neutrons are far more massive than electrons ◦ Mass of a proton or neutron is approximately.

Element Poster Project 40 points Students will choose an element and create a multimedia display on an 18” x 18” poster. Posters that are not the correct size will not be accepted! Required information: Element name (top center) Element symbol (Large font, centered below name) Atomic number (upper left of poster) Atomic mass (upper right of poster labeled in A.M.U.) Atomic structure (diagram of protons in nucleus & electrons in orbits) placed in lower right) f) Element information (lower left, see next slide) g) 3 uses for this element (shown with three individual pictures) h) Any other interesting facts about this element.

Display Format 26 Fe Iron 56 amu Atomic mass 56 Atomic number Required info (next slide) Atomic model data Pictures to show uses of element

Group or Family Name Discoverer & Date of discovery Origin of name (language) Phase (S, L, or G) Metal/non-metal Color Melting point Boiling point Density Reactivity List at least one known isotope for your element.

Use pictures to show at least 3 uses for your element

atomic structure diagram may be printed and placed in the lower right hand corner of your Poster.
