Units & Measurements Section 2.1

 Define SI Base Units  Explain how adding a prefix changes a unit  Convert between Metric Units

Chemists use an internationally recognized system of units to communicate their findings.

 Systeme Internationale d’Units (SI) is an internationally agreed upon system of measurements.

 A defined unit in a system of measurement. Example: Meter Liter Gram

A unit that is defined by a combination of base units.

The first known use of the zero was by 7 th century Hindu, Braghmagupta. Ancient Egyptians and Greeks mathematicians computed without using the zero. However, ancient Babylonians used a place holder similar to the zero. Braghmagupta.

 English Standard  Used in United States & Liberia  Yards, Miles, Quarts, & Galloons
