HOMEWORK:  Essay draft due Wednesday  Essay final due Friday Today’s Targets  Define and identify myth  Make comparisons between myths/creation stories  Work on close reading of two texts

 What is the purpose of myths in cultures, and what are some examples that you recollect?  Respond in complete sentences.  Don’t forget to use proper capitalization and end punctuation.

Whole class discussion:

 “Myth is metaphor.”—Joseph Campbell

 Example – natural phenomenon, like hurricanes or thunder  In a small group, brainstorm other things stories might be created to explain.

Listen as I read the story to you.  What is being created?  What is the role of the gods in creation?
