Atherton became president of what had then had become The Pennsylvania State College In the 1930s a series of branch campuses throughout Pennsylvania for students who could not afford to leave home to attend college Enrollment surpassed 5,000 in 1936 becoming the Commonwealth’s largest source of baccalaureate degrees Coming of Age President Milton Eisenhower changed the name in 1953 to The Pennsylvania State University The Hershey Medical Center was established in 1967 with a $50 million gift from chocolate magnate Milton S. Hershey In 1997, Penn State and the Dickinson School of Law joined ranks

ITS Facts Did you know that in The Penn State home page logged an average 2.49 million hits per day. Over 441,000 transactions were processed through the ITS centralized eCommerce system Penn State's servers handled an average of 4.7 million s each day Library Services for Persons with Disabilities scanned 114,238 pages to accommodate 40 students with disabilities Integrated Backbone traffic volume approached 100,000 terabits, connecting over 100,000 nodes ITS will support 16,005 classroom seats at UP this fall, which will offer more than 30 million hours of instruction

ITS Hot Issues A group of IT experts, called ITS ITANA, is currently analyzing the IT architecture employed in mission critical systems at Penn State and will recommend new models to serve the future needs of students, faculty, and staff Penn State's newly created Identity and Access Management (lAM) council will unveil a strategy for managing access to Penn State's ever-growing IT infrastructure, and for securing the digital identities of its users The Information, Privacy and Security (IPAS) Team was formed in Fall of 2006 who’s primary goal is to assure the privacy of critical information and to comply with internal policies and external regulations affecting Penn State
