About Me Debra Bralley, TD Teacher at JV Washam Undergraduate in Elementary Education (B.A., Eled.) Masters in Gifted Education (M.Ed., AIG) Teacher in CMS for over 12 years

The Gifted Student: Generally needs fewer repetitions to retain material Can make connections across subjects Often uses divergent thinking to come up with new, sometimes ‘out of the box’ connections and solutions Gifted students learn in different ways, NOT just faster!

Talent Development Services Purpose: To differentiate for Gifted and High Achieving Students Goal: To support the development of a content-rich educational experience for students so they have the opportunity to:  maximize their potential  demonstrate their motivation  realize their contributions to self and the global community

Differentiated instruction for gifted students provides opportunities and resources to…… allow them to move at the appropriate pace for their learning needs. complete various assignments to complement and supplement the standard curriculum. engage in abstract, creative, and affective reasoning apply insightful questioning develop a capacity to see interconnections among disciplines practice self-directed learning and independent problem solving maximize their leadership potential become active participants in the global community

The Catalyst Model 2 nd grade: Students are pulled to a central location (2x per week) Enrichment lessons are taught (Reading & Math) Students usually receive a weekly follow-up assignment/activity Work completed in I & E (Extension Time) This gives the students a time during the week to interact with students from other classrooms. share the responsibility The classroom teachers and TD/Catalyst teacher share the responsibility for the education of gifted students.
