Cedefop: a European Union agency About 40 agencies and decentralised bodies in all EU Member States, governed by European public law, covering many areas health, safety, environment, justice, business…) Policy agencies Independent with their own governance structure Specific objective, in a defined policy area technical, scientific, communication tasks Located across the EU Member States Subject to EU rules and EU budgetary control Executive agencies Part of a DG Programme management Located at Brussels or Luxembourg 2

Cedefop - the European Union‘s reference centre for vocational education and training Cedefop‘s mission is to provide information on and analyses of vocational education and training systems, policies, research and practice. Cedefop‘s work underpins European vocational education and training policy. 3

Cedefop‘s raison d‘être The aim of the Centre is to encourage, at Community level, the promotion and development of vocational education and in-service training. Within the framework of the community guidelines, assisting the Commission, Cedefop shall, through its scientific and technical activities, contribute to the implementation of a common vocational training policy; It shall encourage the exchange of information and comparison of experience, thus supporting the Member States.” (Founding regulation, art.2/1, 1975) 4
