All great songs start with structure. What all pop songs have in common is that they provide a balance between repetition and new information. Song structure.

Tell a story, who, what, where, when, lyrics usually change from verse to verse. Verse.

Build energy and lead the listener into the chorus, dynamics get louder and texture gets thicker. Pre chorus.

Tells you the message of the song, lyrics and melody stay the same in most choruses. Has the thickest texture of the song. Chorus.

 Lyrics and melodic contrast. Bridge.
