Career Choice  Dietitian/Nutritionist Dietitian- an expert on diet and nutrition, who designs nutrition programs to protect health, prevent allergic reactions and alleviate the symptoms of many types of disease. Someone who primarily focuses on the impact of food on health. Nutritionist- a person who studies or is an expert in nutrition o A dietitian can call themselves a nutritionist, but a nutritionist can not call themselves a dietitian, due to the fact that a dietician has university qualifications, while a nutritionist has only take a short course in nutrition

Types of Dietitians;  Clinical Dietitians  Community Dietitians  Management Dietitians  Consultant Dieticians

Education & Training Requirements Minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree (4 years) With a bachelor’s degree on dietetics, nutrition or another health science field However some dieticians hold graduate degrees Courses; human nutrition, experimental foods, medical nutrition therapy, food service organization and quantity food production With a master’s degree you can qualify for research, public health or advanced clinical positions Be familiar with life sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, food science and statistics Licensing Most states require dietitians to obtain licensure, certification or registration to practice in the profession Those who practice without a license are subject to prosecution In states that require certification, dieticians must meet predetermined, state- specific qualifications to obtain a certification

Typical Day The day will differ for the type of dietitian you are, and what area you work in. Clinical Dietitian  Arrive at work typically around 7:00 a.m. o Start off the day checking s and responding back to patients with any questions or concerns o Then has consultations with patients and assesses the patient’s nutrition programs and evaluate and report the results o Discuss with the doctors and other health care professionals in order to coordinate medical and nutritional needs o Main focus is to advice and guide the patient, and help them create a plan that meets their individual health needs and goals  Finish the day off around 4:30 p.m.

Aptitudes Why would I be suited for this job??? The following demonstrates the skills a registered Dietitian must need to be successful, and I know I can meet the standards to provide the best results for the patients. Active listener; taking time to understand the points being made Communicating skills; to convey information effectively Time management; using time wisely for others and myself Critical thinking; use of logic and reason to find alternative solutions for the patient Persuasion; explaining the benefits of the change in lifestyle to live a better, healthier life Instructing; teaching others how to do something to live a better lifestyle Coordination; adjusting actions in relation to others actions

Therefore, I believe I’ll be a great candidate to become a dietitian to guide others into living a healthy lifestyle that will turn into a life changing experience.
