Deputy Fire Chief JEFF JACKSON

What is a Deputy Fire Chief?  Commanding officer in a fire department (either elected or appointed) who is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day tasks of running a firefighting organization.  Such tasks include supervising other officers and firefighters at an emergency scene and recruiting, training, and equipping them for their respective duties.  Depending upon local needs and organization, the Chief may also be involved in fire prevention, fire inspection, disaster preparedness, emergency medical services, and related disciplines, as well as administrative duties such as budgets and personnel issues, research into safety and regulations, and liaison with other agencies.

What are the Qualifications?  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

What kind of experience do I need?  Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Fire Sciences, Emergency Medical Services, or a related field; AND four (4) years of experience at the Battalion Chief (or higher) level in a municipal fire agency. Internal applicants may substitute for (4) years of experience at the Captain level for the Battalion Chief requirement.

What will my salary be?  $80, $112,144 per year
