Presentation transcript:

Nucleus Contains DNA and Genetic information. Tells the rest of the cell what to do. It is the “boss” in the cell.

Mitochondria Provide energy for cell activities. Responsible for cellular respiration. It is the “powerhouse” of the cell.

Chloroplast Allows plant cells to harvest solar energy. Responsible for making sugars to store energy. Chloroplasts are the “solar panels” of plant cells. Only occur in plant cells.

Vacuole Store water and other materials in cells. They are responsible for storage in cells. They are the “warehouse” of the cell. In plants, the water vacuole is the largest structure in the cell.

Lysosome Lysosomes are filled with enzymes. They break down and recycle unwanted cell structures. They are the “janitors” of the cell. They can be triggered to commit “cell suicide”.

Golgi Apparatus Stack of membranes inside the cell. Responsible for shipping materials out of the cell. It is the “delivery service” of the cell. Named after Camilo Golgi, who discovered it.

Cell Membrane The cell membrane is a lipid bilayer. It’s responsible for determining what comes in and goes out of a cell. The cell membrane is the “security guard” of the cell.
