Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 2 of 20 Dutch Satellite Interest Days Colloquium-like day First in 2013 and second held in 2015 Combination of lectures and multiple hands-on sessions Many people started or restarted with amateur satellites! Hosted by the VERON VHF day Satellite part organized by Henk Hamoen - PA3GUO Ivo Klinkert - PA1IVO
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 3 of 20 How it all started No satellite activities on a national level in NL AMSAT-NL too busy building satellites Just a ‘community day’ would be perfect! How to start? Rob PE1ITR made the link to the VERON VHF day Further ideas made during international AMSAT travels:
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 4 of 20 First Sat Day Paasloo No idea about number of participants 30 subscribed, but many more during popular talks! Same day as a national ‘radio rally' nearby Perfect location, excellent weather Young, old, male, female and even amateurs from Belgium. Great audience – Big success!
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 5 of 20 Second Sat Day Apeldoorn Initially only small room available, will 30 people fit? We closed the registration after reaching 100 participants! Again a mixture of people including student for STEM like project Big boost for amateur satellite hobby in NL

Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 8 of 20 So, what happens in The Netherlands? Short impression based on the 2015 lectures Multiple satellite builders Scientific cubesat tracking and decoding TLE lotteries for the community Deep space radio signal reception Education in satellite theory and practice

Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 10 of 20 Scientific cubesat tracking and decoding From antenna to data all handled by Jan PE0SAT
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 11 of 20 TLE lotteries for the community Advanced Satellite Tracking lecture by Nico PA0DLO Quick course TLE parameters, including a quiz! TLE lottery: ‘Orbit fitting' Expert active in the back ground Very helpful to the satellite community
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 12 of 20 Deep space radio signal reception Deep Space Probes on the amateur radio bands lecture Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (2005) LX0OHB-4M (2014) Shin-en2 (2014) Artsat2::Despatch (2014) Sounds so easy to do when Rob PE1ITR is presenting Descent RX results with FCD+ With his own antennas at home!
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 13 of 20 Education in satellite theory and practice Starting with Amateur Satellites lecture Hands-on demo sessions Very popular and useful for many radio amateurs Emphasis on simplicity Sound bites of different satellites Beginners session and expert session in parallel
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 14 of 20 Hands-on demo sessions Broad selection of LEO satellites HO-68 for receive only, practice of pointing and Doppler tuning AO-73 for QSO, practice Doppler and the FUN of hearing QSOs SO-50 for more ‘easy’ fun of making QSOs Multiple receivers from many participants Selected passes communicated in advance All-worked-out sheet available for all Hell-of-a-job to combine passes and fixed program

Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 17 of 20 PR Old fashioned paper magazine works fine Electron, the ‘Dutch RadCom’, build-up of information Dutch amateur radio Internet news sites The ‘Southgate Effect’ Keynote talks attract people On-line participant list motivate other people to join Huge amount of work to keep up to date with 100 participants
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 18 of 20 Up-to-date website Presentations still available
Dutch Satellite Interest Days - PA1IVOpage: 19 of 20 Lessons Learned Program a bit too crowded … … but nice full for an overwhelming satellite experience … Space hardware available is really great Not our ‘own’ event, sometimes difficult for planning Both presenting and organizing is a bit busy …. Big step to start such an event Don’t under-estimate 100 participants! Very broad audience to target Existing sat users, but also many new (many novice licensees) Renewed satellite amateurs “Hey, these LEO sats are cool and relatively easy”
