Waste Neighbourhood Incentive Scheme. What is it all about? Who can take part? What do we mean by waste reduction?

What is it all about? Cornwall Council wish to use grant funding from the Department of Local Communities and Government (DCLG) to encourage Town and Parish Councils to apply to run campaigns to reduce household waste at source. Offering start up grants and rewarding successful campaigns based on how much waste is reduced.

Who can take part? Any town or parish council who are not part of the plastic pots tubs and trays trial. Local environmental groups can work with town and parish councils on projects.

Why waste reduction? What is the waste hierarchy ? Reduce Reuse Recycle Recover Disposal

What’s in the bin? Food waste Compostable waste Nappies Junk mail Commercial waste.

How can we get involved? Return the expression of interest form by 9 October CC will send out an application pack. Applications to be returned by 7 November. Selection panel will make the award. We hope that 6 applications will be chosen.

How much could we earn? Number of properties in the parish or town. 2.5% reduction 5% reduction 10% reduction Over 4,000£5,000£10,000£20, – 3,999£1,875£3,750£7,500 Under 800£625£1,250£2,500 Table One. Percentage of Estimated Community Reward

What about recycling? We all always encourage recycling but Waste reduction is the best environmental and economic option This is what it is all about!
