The 2012 Summer Olympics began July 27, 2012 London England

Trampoline Gymnastics is a relative newcomer on the Olympic programme; it made its debut at the Sydney 2000 Games.

The event was held this year in the North Greenwich Arena on the banks of the River Thames on August 3 rd & 4 th.

There are 16 women and 16 men who compete and there are two medal events. The men competed on 8/03/12 and the women competed on 8/04/12.

Gymnnasts perform a series of 10 skill routines with a variety of single, double and triple somersaults with and without twists.

Precise technique and perfect body control are vital for success. The judges deliver marks for difficulty, execution and time of flight and deduct penalties.

Some of the flips the competitors do have very strange names…. Barani – a front somersault with a half-twist. Fliffus – a double somersault with at least a half-twist. Triffus – a triple somersault with at least a half-twist. Rudolph – a front somersault with 1½ twists, sometimes known as a 'Rudy'.

Savannah Visant and Steven Gluckstein represented the United States in the competition.
