Network Topologies & Routers By Scott Miller

Network Topology: is the study of the physical and logical connections between input & output devices Physical (real) versus Logical (Virtual) NETWORK TOPOLOGY

Physical Topologies LAN’s are input/output device networks in a small radius that transmit voice, video & data. LOCAL AREA NETWORK TOPOLOGIES

ETHERNET A local area technology that connects all the devices in a local area network.

A computer network that covers a broad area using public & private communication links WIDE AREA NETWORK (WAN)

Routers enable data to reach their destination by connecting networks. ROUTERS

Tiers of interconnected networks that form the trunk & core of the Internet INTERNET BACKBONES

Tier 1- OC-192 connection links the biggest, fastest & most complex networks Tier 2- OC-48 to OC-12 somewhat slower ( GBPS) and usually serve large scale ISPs Tier 3- OC-12 to OC-3 are the slowest ( MBPS) connects smaller ISPs, Universities, &businesses. INTERNET BACKBONE TIERS
