 The Temple  The magnificent Temple that was standing in Jerusalem throughout Jesus’ life was built by Herod. God was believed to be especially present in the Temple, and sacrifices were offered there. Entry was limited, and the further you entered the more restrictions there were.

Draw a quick plan of what the temple looked like in your book.  Use pages  Label it – headings only.  Label on the “Holy of Holies”.  Write what it is!  Explain why was the “Holy of Holies” so important?

 The Synagogues  Jews also worshipped in synagogues, which were to be found throughout the Roman Empire. As with synagogues today, Jews went there on the Sabbath for worship based on prayer, psalms, reading the Torah (the written Law), and teaching including discussion.
