Election of 1876 and the compromise of 1877 By Natasha Rodriguez Matt tomshe

Election of 1876 Candidates Republican party- Rutherford B. Hayes he is from Ohio. Is known for his honesty and a champion at political reform. Democratic party- Samuel Tilden he is from New York. He is known for fighting political corruption in the New York City.

What happened during the election Hayes won by a commission/group of 7 republicans and 7 democrats and 1 independent. But the independent left so a republican took his place. Votes came to 8to7 toward all to dispute votes. Democrats threatened to fight verdict. Republican and Southern Democrats met secretly and agreed to accept Hayes as president.

What happened during the Compromise of 1877 Compromise-included various favors for the south. It also maintains African Americans rights restored to the south. The compromise was a fail because they rebuilt the south but they didn’t change the acts of southern white people.
