 The Civil War began on April 12, 1861 and ended April 15,  The main reason for the Civil War was to fight about slavery. Another reason for the war was the election of Abraham Lincoln. Since Abraham Lincoln was anti-slavery, the south thought that he liked and was in favor of the North.

Confederate States Involved: Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia Union States Involved: Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine

 France and Britain had an alliance with the Confederacy.

 In the 1800’s he was born in Torrington, Connecticut.  He was an active supporter of the underground railroad.  He helped establish an organization to protect slaves from their capturers.  He was responsible for the cold blooded massacre of 5 settlers in a pro-slavery town.  In 1859 he raid on Harper’s ferry, Brown was caught and executed.

 Was born on June 3 rd, 1808 in Kentucky.  He began service in the US Army in 1828  In November of 1845 he was elected to the US House of Representatives.  In 1853 he begun to serve US Secretary of the War.  On May 9 th, 1865 he was captured by the Union Cavalry.

 Fort Sumter: - Was on April 12 th, Took place in Charleston, SC.  1 st Battle of Bull Run: -Was on July 21 st,1861. Took place in Manassas Junction, VA. 3,000 northern soldiers died, & 2,000 southern soldiers died.

 Battle of Gettysburg: -Occurred on July 1 st -3 rd, It is known as the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. Approximately 51,112 were either killed, wounded, missing, or captured.  2 nd Battle of Fort Fisher: -Occurred on January 13 th -15 th, Was the confederate fort during the Civil War. Was captured by the Union.  Battle of Appomattox (courthouse): -Was on April 9 th, The confederate surrendered to the Union Army, It was the final battle of the Civil War.

Civil War Weapons! Artillery Edged Weapons Small Arms Minie Balls First used in 1848 Was Like a rifle and a soft led bullet Since it was smaller than the diameter of a barrel, it made loading guns quicker.

 Trains were mostly used in the Civil War, but were very cramped.  When the soldiers didn’t have trains to get around, they would just march to wherever they needed to go.

I think that the Civil War brought the nation together. They stopped slavery and made us all come together as a nation.

Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse. And soon after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.
